Trent Horn is an apologist at Catholic Answers. Since he converted to Catholicism at the age of 17, Trent has had a passion for explaining and defending the Faith. An Important Book for Those Who Wish to be More Persuasive in Their Conversations

Persuasive Pro-Life is simply a must-have for any pro-life advocate's library. It looks like there's no paperback copy available on Amazon (except a hugely overpriced copy from England), so if you'd prefer a paperback over a Kindle version, you should go to Catholic Answers' website and purchase it there.

Trent Horn used to work for Justice for All, and it really shows in this book. If you've ever been through a JFA seminar, this book is a terrific supplement to the seminar. It's basically the JFA seminar in print form.

Trent begins by explaining what's at stake in the issue, then turns to how to have more productive conversations on abortion. Instead of having conversations that devolve into shouting matches and name-calling, or even having civil conversations where both people talk past each other, Trent discusses skills to develop that will help you be more convincing in your conversations to be able to change hearts and minds on this issue.

After the conversation skill, Trent discusses the many different kinds of people you may encounter when you talk about this issue, and the best ways to respond to their concerns.

When I first heard that Trent was writing a book, I was told that the book would be similar to Scott Klusendorf's The Case for Life, only geared more toward Catholics. While Trent does quote many Catholic fathers and popes, this is not a book just for Catholics. Non-Catholics will get much out of the book, and the vast majority of information in this book can be accepted and used by non-Catholics. There are only two places in the book that I can recall that may not be specifically helpful to non-Catholics, but it is still very helpful to at least hear where Catholics are coming from on this issue, especially since they're the largest pro-life group of people in the world.

There was really only one misstep in the book that I can recall, but it's a minor one, as far as I'm concerned. In his discussion of abortions in the case of rape on page 207, Trent (in the mouth of a pro-life advocate) makes the statement that "rape is a tragic crime that men will never understand." But some men *are* raped. It's important to understand that while women are the vast majority of victims, there are still men who are raped, and may even be working for the pro-life field and can use that as a bit of common ground with the pro-choice advocate.

Trent's book is simply one of the better books you can own on the abortion issue. It will help you present a much more persuasive case for the pro-life position, not just because it presents good, compelling arguments, but also because it will help you be a much more persuasive arguer by treating the person you're talking to with respect, listening to their concerns, and finding common ground without compromising your pro-life convictions.

Just when I thought that not much more could be said in the pro-life/pro-choice debate, Trent Horn delivers a clear and incisive guide book to discussing pro-life issues with friends and strangers.

Persuasive Pro-Life is the definitive book to buy to help you understand the strongest and most popular pro-choice arguments and be able to adeptly and charitably counter them.

Horn discusses these arguments in detail and demonstrates why they do not hold water, but just as importantly he explains the various mindsets of the people who believe these faulty positions to be true.

Let’s face it: pro-abortion arguments are weak. Science and philosophy both show how untenable them are. But that fact has not stopped millions of people from accepting the pro-abortion position. So it is crucial to not just know the counter-arguments but also the way to interact and respond to such people, so that, by God’s grace, they can see the error of their views.

Abortion is such a contentious and sensitive topic. People quickly fall into hysterics about it if not dealt with very carefully. Horn has been engaging pro-abortion people for years on these issues and is an expert on them. Persuasive Pro-Life is a book you want to get to arm yourself with a deep understanding of how to handle dialogue with pro-choicers.

Packed with candid anecdotes and practical advice you can start applying to yourself today

What I liked about the book:
- No hard sale. I generally skip many pages in self-help books because the writer thinks I need to listen to their sales patter. I already bought your book, isn't that enough? There is a gentle suggestion at the end of the book which doesn't make you feel the least bit annoyed. In fact I am considering the pitch....
- Amazingly candid anecdotes from professional experience that will leave you either cringing or nodding your head in recognition of the point she's making.
- Very specific recommendations about what to do. The chapters don't just leave a general guidance note. For instance, on bespoke tailoring she talks about exactly what matters in a tailored suit and how to deal with budgetary concerns etc.
- It is probably the most widest in scope. It's not just your physicality that's the issue here. The writer discusses things such as media portrayals, social media use and confirmation bias. A very 21st century outlook.
- The book covers research materials for each topic. I prefer it when I get presented with some data for claims made in books!

What I didn't like (or what I thought was missing):
- It lacks a contents page, with the chapter headings. It was particularly a problem for me because I bought the Kindle version, I guess. I prefer to be able to flip back and forth between chapters when I am reading non-fiction to keep track of points I think are aligned together.
- It leaves it up to the reader to summarize an action plan. I feel like this could have been done relatively easily given how many practical suggestions are made in the book.
But these are really nitpicky points. I think it was a pretty good read, packing in lots of valuable action points that I am trying to incorporate into my daily life.

I outlined the chapters because I usually find that helps me a lot in deciding whether or not to buy a self-help book. However, in this instance, there are many subheadings within each chapter that breaks down to anecdotes and very specific action points, so it may not be exactly helpful.

Great ideas you can use right away to look (and feel) like a million bucks.

I don't exactly have a shelf full of books on image and style. I'm an aging, overweight Texas guy who is lucky to show up with all my buttons buttoned and my hair somewhat combed. But once I met Sylvie di Giusto, I wanted to see what she had to say on the subject of image, because she's about the coolest-looking person I've ever met. To my delight, her book is not a mostly-for-women-but-here's-a-bit-for-the-men presentation, but an immensely readable, instantly applicable guide to making the most of your personal image...EVEN IF you're an aging, overweight guy.
Sylvie names the names and tells the stories of people we all know about, and she points out with clarity what they get right and what they get wrong. It is jarring to know that a potential employer might pass on hiring you just because of your tie or your shoes, but that is a real possibility today. Sylvie's guidelines helped me to assess my wardrobe and see what items made the right impression and which ones just say, "I have given up on society."
You'll enjoy this book; it's a quick read, but packed with useful insight and ideas that you can use right away, wrapped in fascinating personal stories. I loved it!

An elegant and convincing guide to business style

I came to "The Image of Leadership" as a skeptic, having been disappointed by other business fashion guides that seek to cram every professional into rigid categories. What I found in Sylvie di Giusto was an expert who guides and inspires rather than dictates. A few personal highlights:

• Sylvie encourages different standards of professional style for different industries and fields. Too often it is one look for all. A subtle but important point.

• Find a style that fits your personality. If you don't do this, not only will your outfit not look right but you won't wear it with comfort and confidence. This is one of the keys to projecting authenticity.

• Whatever style you ultimately choose, Sylvie emphasizes the need to pay attention to detail--especially for us men! It's the little things that we think nobody notices (scuffed shoes, worn out belt) but people always do. And these are often the easiest and least expensive items to take care of.

"The Image of Leadership" is smart, well written, and suffused with an elegance that will seduce even the most fashion-phobic among us.

Forgotten history

If as a reader and a rider, one is familiar with the skill and international influence of Charles de Kunffy, you will come to know this man from a different perspective, one of tyranny and war. Though Mr. de Kunffy concentrates on the riding part of his life in Hungary over a four year period in history, his story is not only shocking and saddening but courageous beyond measure. If readers are looking for more detail about the war, read between the lines more closely. Every page speaks to the threat and uncertainty. There was no guarantee of survival. The book reads like a fascinating storyteller at your most enjoyable dinner party. A sobering narrative sprinkled with dry wit and hope. Read it whether or not you are a rider. This history is lost and will be forgotten in time.

This book is a treasure. When I started to read it I could not put it down. My family kept asking me what are you reading and both my daughters got into reading it. The history that Charles writes about is so personel and yet such a powerful story of his survival in very hard times. Each page I was on the edge of my seat to know what would happen next. So many of the things he writes about as a young student to some of the greatest Mater teachers of classical horsemanship --I can relate to in my own way ward education as a dressage rider. I enoyed every page of this book.

When is the movie coming out?

I rode in clinics with Charles de Kunffy for ten years, and I can hear his voice as I read this book. The powerful voice is so Charles. The book is wonderful. I knew a little about Charles' background before reading this book, but I had no idea of the ordeal he survived. He always presented himself with great dignity underscored with a marvelous sense of humor. Anyone who knows him knows his way with words. In this book, Charles includes an instruction by one of his instructors, Dr. Jeno Kosa-Reznek: "Ride the air between your boots and his sides." This sentence was meant to convey the softness of the leg aids a rider should use. I don't think you have to be a rider to appreciate the mind of Dr Reznek. Surely I'm not the only one who wishes I could have known him. Charles is a tribute to this horseman's memory.

My eighty-year-old Aunt is a horse lover, but not a rider. She met Charles once. She loved the book, and said that she could "hear" him as she read. I highly recommend this book. It should be made into a movie. It's an incredible story with appealing heroes and strong villains. Did I mention the great photos? They will help in casting the movie. Is there any way to make Sean Penn look fourteen? He is my pick to play the lead.

A Real funny keeper

Chesnie Cosgrove gets a job working for Joel Davenport, and the fun starts, Joel keeps Chesnie busy on so she can't see other men, then when he sees he can have a possition in the family company he works for he takes Chesnie as his wife, only Chesnie doesn't think Joel loves her as much as she loves, him.
Joel soon shows Chesnie over and over again the deep love he has for her and she responds in like manor. This is one romantic book, and funny. Hot, but good.If you liked this book you'll like Eva Rutland, Susan Fox, Rebecca Winters, Helen Brooks, the late Essie Summers, and the late great Betty Neels.

helped give me an edge

I was looking for anything that would help with the NJ state license exam. I bought this book as I liked the idea of having the opportunity of taking more practice exams and having a condensed course review. I found using this book along with a review of the course book was a tremendous help. I highly recommend it to anyone who isn't already 100% confident of a passing exam grade. Frankly, some of the questions in the practice exams appeared in the exam, albeit worded differently.

Excellent Resource for Test Prep!

This book helped me pass my real estate salesperson test on the first try! I used it to supplement the HUGE Frank Kovats book. Kovats is extremely wordy! This book was nicely condensed. It provides 4 sample tests. I never utilized the included CD, but others may find it helpful. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 rating is that the Math Review section wasn't specific to real estate scenarios; more of a general math review- multiplication, division, algebra and geometry... But the rest of the book was spot on! Money very well spent.
