A joy to read

Grace has recently lost her mother. She wants to return to her childhood home to live a secluded life in the countryside. She loves the home she grew up in and is especially attached to the beautiful wedding cake tree in the garden. Grace expects to inherit the cottage, but her mother has other plans. Even in death she tries to send Grace a message. Grace has to wait six months before the reading of the will. When she's finally ready to hear what it says there's another surprise waiting for her. She's supposed to go on a trip, a journey that takes her to the important places in her mother's life from before Grace was born.
Grace isn't supposed to travel alone. Alasdair is a dear friend of her mother and he's supposed to keep her company, to be her guide and to give Grace her mother's letters. Grace's mother has a lot of surprises for her daughter and Grace starts to wonder how well she really knew her mother. Fortunately Alasdair is handsome and they're getting along well, very well even. Will Grace embrace her mother's inheritance and what will her future look like now that she's learned more about the past?
The Wedding Cake Tree is a fantastic book about a great topic. Grace has to travel to the places that were important in her mother's past. The idea behind is to get to know her mother, but also to get to know herself. Alasdair is great company, but he's also troubled. He needs the trip and some time to relax as his job is really hard. Grace and Alasdair are good for each other and I hoped they would have a future together. Grace also needs to face some facts about her own life and her mother's crazy plan maybe isn't the best way to do it, but it's certainly effective. The crazy trip, the chemistry between Grace and Alasdair and plenty of unexpected twists and turns make this book a joy to read. I liked it a lot and highly recommend it.

Choc-lit book you can not go wrong with

While Grace is ready to receive her inheritance, she is face with going on a journey one she did not want to go on let alone with someone she didn't know. Alasdair is so caught up in his life an guilt that when he is asked to go on a journey he said yes and now he is wondering if that was the best choice.
I found the book quite predictable some times and I was ready to just roll my eyes and wanted to book done, but my view to that changed quickly. I really really liked this book. There where a few twisted an turns which kept you wanting to change the pages, so I have to say the book is a page turner and worth the read. I also have to say that the language is not to strong but I would say it would be better for either a older teenager. The author did a good job giving chemistry between the characters even though it was only from a one persons view. You really can not go wrong with this book its worth the read for sure.

A romantic journey of a story

This emotional, romantic novel was a joy from beginning to end. Grace is a celebrity photographer mourning her beloved mother. But when her mother’s will is read she’s stunned to learn Rosamund has left detailed instructions she’ll have to fulfil in order to inherit the home she grew up in. For 2 weeks she has to travel the country dictated by a series of letters her mother has left with the man who must accompany her. Alasdair is a Royal Marine and old friend of her mother. He’s worn out by war and like Grace is at a crucial point in his life. Together they uncover the many secrets Grace’s mother kept and learn things about themselves they could never have suspected. I loved the journey they went on, both physical and emotional and was rooting for them on so many different levels. This story will draw you in and not let go until the last page.
