It uses an innovative combination of isotopic (principally carbon, nitrogen and strontium, with some oxygen), osteological and archaeological analysis to address difference and change across the LBK, and to reflect on cultural change in general.

Gary Armstrong is Crist W. Blackwell Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Undergraduate Education in the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds undergraduate and masters degrees in business from Wayne State University in Detroit, and he received his Ph.D. in marketing from Northwestern University. Dr. Armstrong has contributed numerous articles to leading business journals. As a consultant and researcher, he has worked with many companies on marketing research, sales management, and marketing strategy.

But Professor Armstrong’s first love has always been teaching. His long-held Blackwell Distinguished Professorship is the only permanent endowed professorship for distinguished undergraduate teaching at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been very active in the teaching and administration of Kenan-Flagler’s undergraduate program. His administrative posts have included Chair of Marketing, Associate Director of the Undergraduate Business Program, Director of the Business Honors Program, and many others. Through the years, he has worked closely with business student groups and has received several UNC campuswide and Business School teaching awards. He is the only repeat recipient of school’s highly regarded Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, which he received three times. Most recently, Professor Armstrong received the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching honor bestowed by the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina system.

Love this book! Always so thorough with explanations and helpful with examples. I've used this curriculum since 7th grade and still am in love with it. Some would describe it as a rigorous curriculum, but if you keep up with every lesson then everything's easy and readily divided into small, simple pieces. Most helpful math textbook.

Utterly funny and totally romantic

Irresistibly Yours is the first book in Lauren Layne's Oxford series, a spin off from her very successful Sex, Love & Stiletto series and this one brings back one of readers favorite secondary characters. Cole Sharpe freelance sportswriter for Oxford is a shoe in for the sports editor job. A permanent position that he's eschewed quite a number of times but has suddenly found himself wanting badly. But then his chances of getting it is cut down to fifty percent when someone else is after the spot. Surprisingly, his rival is cute and friendly sports genius Penelope Pope, someone who he can't really find himself being indifferent to, in fact they're becoming BFFs fast. Who would have thought, Penelope aka "Tiny" would end up his best buddy and co worker to boot. But then when did he start lusting after cute brunettes rather than tall curvy blondes? Penelope has always known she'd be friend zoned for life and so when ever charming Cole starts showing signs of interest she decided to put up barriers fast. She didn't want to end up hurt again. But when lust seems greater than logic what are they supposed to do? This enchanting, funny, sweet and so hilarious take on the rivals to friends to lovers trope is guaranteed to keep you reading well past your bedtime. Cole and Penelope's journey into the ever confusing world of relationships is one entertaining moment after another. For them sports seems way easier to navigate, but someone to hug at night is so worth the heartache. Irresistibly Yours is so, so good, its going to be one of those books you'll keep re-reading. This is a great first book into what looks like another great series.

I loved it. It was wonderful and I loved the friends to lovers build of the story. Penelope and Cole were both likeable, relatable, and enjoyable characters to sirens time with. I didn't have a single issue with the story, the characters, the pacing. Nothing. The only complaint, and its minor, is that the epilogue was more to set up the next book than to tie up this one. But that was OK to, as it was left in a pretty perfect place all in its own.

Sigh... so much love for the Oxford men, loved Irresistibly Yours!

Can't stop smiling, loved Cole and Penelope.

From the first page I was hooked, I fell in love with the storyline and characters. I read it in one sitting.

The chemistry between Cole and Penelope was believable and well written, loved their banter and humor, it really added to my enjoyment of the story.

Once again Lauren Layne has written a heartwarming and entertaining romance with lovable and relatable characters that will touch your heart and leave you with a very satisfying smile on your face.

I highly recommend this book and everything else this talented author has written!

The first part of the book provides a narrative relating the legal�discourse on race, concubinage and slavery as well as historical events and�developments that are not well known in printed scholarship and western�contexts. �The second part of the book is conceptually ambitious; it�provides the reader with a deeper sense of the historical and sociological�implications of the story being told across a long period of time, from the�seventeenth to the twentieth centuries.� Though the strongest element of�theses chapters concerns the "black army," an important component of the discussion is the role of female slaves.� One of the problems the�historian faces with this kind of analysis is that it must rest on a limited�"evidentiary base." This book has broadened this base and clarified the�importance of female slaves in relation to the army and Moroccan society at�large. The emphasis on the political history of the black army is augmented by a close examination of the continuity of black Moroccan identity through the musical and cultural practices of the Gnawa.

Black Morocco�redefines the terms of the scholarly debate�about the historical nature of Moroccan slavery and proposes an original�analysis of issues concerning race, concubinage and gender, with a special�focus on their theoretical aspects.� The Moroccan system of racial�definition was clearly "racialist" and was in fact a curious inversion of the�Western racist model. Whereas in the western model "one drop" of black�blood identifies one as black, in the Moroccan model, "one drop" of white blood�identifies one as Arab (i.e., privileged).� This process helped create a"nationalist" Moroccan Arab majority and at the same time subjugated black�ancestry (i.e., those without the "one drop" of Arab blood), seen as having�more bearing on the historical antecedents of slavery.�Black Morocco�offers a new�paradigm for the study of race in the region that will transform the way we�approach and understand ethnicity and racial identities in North Africa and�most crucially it helps eliminate the culture of silence -- the refusal to�engage in discussions about slavery, racial attitudes, and gender issues.

A remarkable book

I am very impressed with this work. I find that the topic is long overdue. It is like the five hundred pound elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about. It is quite remarkable to me how the author was able to go into so much detail which is supported by evidence and extensive footnotes about a subject that is barely known in the west. Mr. El Hamel seems to be very comfortable and knowledgeable about the attitudes and ideas of both east and west, and the book is a very easy read. I had quite a few ideas of my own about the Arab and Islamic societies views on race and gender over the years, and he confirmed some of them, and disavowed others. I like his writing style, and his arguments are very well constructed. I think he probably has ruffled a few feathers by going deeply into a subject that many people don't want to discuss. But my attitude is how can we understand the present world politics, if we don't know what really happened in the past.

An Overdue Study

Very interesting and well written book about a subject not much discussed in modern Morocco. The author addresses the evolution of slavery in the context of Islam and how pre-exiting notions allowed the race-based slavery to take root in the Dar al-Islam. In examining Morocco's history of slavery and race relations since the early modern age, El Hamel exposes the myth of the benevolent, multi-cultural society upon which Moroccans are so fond of expounding. While Moroccan history reveals nothing of the evils on the scale of the United States, Brazil, or Leopold's Congo, the country also has its dark secrets. While it did not engage in a system of chattel slavery, the Sharifan Kingdom was no more benevolent toward black Africans than it was a shelter for the Jews ejected from Spain. Blacks, he maintains, were marginalized from Arab-Berber society from the start, and remain so to this day.

Author Offers An Engaging Series

A good series although it is a bit slow in pace. There's lots of food for thought because in this series, there is no EMP, no biological warfare, just a collapse of the U.S. fuel infrastructure. It made me think about how dependent our civilization is on oil. The caveats to this series (that I have) include that it would seem unlikely that countries such as Russia and China would try to invade considering that the U.S. still has its full nuclear capability. Other caveats include the unlikelihood of the nation having zero fuel given that there ARE refineries in other states like Kansas and Michigan to name just two states. However, there's no question in my mind that a catastrophe on the scale that the author describes would be terrible. All-in-all, a well-done series.

I am looking forward to the fourth book and for my own tastes hope to read more on the daily struggle, gardening, raising live stock, fishing etc. then some of the more military aspects and gun talk. This series has been well planned and every book seems to resolve a great deal while easily pulling you into the next book. Well done

This is a facsimile in 2 volumes and in full color of the revised version of De Humani Corporis Fabrica, printed at Basel in 1555.
The first version was printed at Basel too, in 1543. The publication of De Humani Corporis Fabrica has been a cornerstone in our knowledge of human anatomy, and it remains quoted as such today in all universities around the world. It is also known for the amazing quality and accuracy of its more than 250 illustrations, which include beautiful full pages plates attributed either to famous Italian painter Titian, or to his pupil Calcar, and for the outstanding quality of its printing and typography which was never seen in any other book before 1543.
With regard to these last characteristics, De Humani Corporis Fabrica may also be regarded as the first modern book.
It encompasses the seven following parts, Vesalius introduced as books, all written in Latin:

1: The Bones and Cartilages.
2: The Ligaments and Muscles.
3: The Veins and Arteries.
4: The Nerves.
5: The Organs of Nutrition and Generation.
6: The Heart and Associated Organs.
7: The Brain.

These books are followed by a short Errata post Libri Impressionem, then by a considerable index of 46 pages. The revised edition of De Humani Corporis Fabrica has 877 pages, against 714 for the first, printed in 1543. The original copy that has been used for the printing of this facsimile is one among the best preserved, with no missing page, no tear and no other damage whatsoever. All of its reproduced pages are as clean as those of a recent used book.

One more particularity of this book was the huge cost of its making, which makes it today a very rare piece of historical value whose original printings are currently sold in auctions for sums in excess of one million dollars. There are only 143 known surviving copies of De Humani Corporis Fabrica. That’s why this facsimile is a highly desired collectible for any physician.
