About the Author

HARLOW C. LANDPHAIR is Professor of Landscape Architecture at Texas A&M University and author of Site Reconnaissance and Engineering (Prentice Hall, 1985). He holds a Doctor of Environmental Design (DED) from Texas A&M and is also a Research Scientist and head of the Environmental Management Program for the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M. His current research is in erosion control materials and in methods and design implementation technology.

Don't buy it new!

It is unbelievable that this book is $80. I agree with the other reviewers that this book falls short of what a professional reference should be, and the typos are plentiful. For the money, Time Saver Standards is a much better buy.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of other good options for a construction reference at the time being, so if you run across a cheaper copy of this book it still might be worth picking up. Though none of the topics are treated with great depth, it does manage to get the ideas across and could be helpful for someone just entering the profession or needing a general refresher.

This book is just a very basic overview of construction, and other supplemental references about the topics covered would definitely be a must.

Poor Execution
By - seeking higher standards
Without a doubt, this is the worst edited publication I have ever read. While the information contained in this book is valuable, the editorial missteps and omissions are maddeningly distracting. Some examples include sentences that don't finish with periods, formulas with typos, poorly reproduced graphics, mathematical errors (in the examples!), objects omitted from sentences, and a contour map that requires a mirror to decipher (figure 3-5). As a teaching tool, this text inspires confussion and frustration rather than delivering clarity and instruction. A 4th edition might correct the many errors, but this edition is far too expensive for it's lack of professionalism.

The only one of its kind, unfortunately

I know one of the authors; he was actually a professor of mine before he retired. I know that he knows his stuff, so I'm praying that this mess of a book is the fault of the publisher.

The typos alone make this text incomprehensible. Add to that illegible diagrams and a complete disorganization between text and headings, and you end up with headaches from just trying to read this silly thing. Unfortunately, this text is the only one of its kind, as far as I can tell.

This book is meant as a comprehensive landscape architecture construction text for students and professionals and covers everything from grading to irrigation to structural load, although not deeply enough to be your only reference.

Unlike Leo Fender,Orville Gibson or C.F.Martin not much is generally known about these D'Angelico or D'Aquisto even though they are regarded as the greatest archtop builders in history. This book individually traces the lives and guitars of each man and features many rare and beautiful photographs.I found this book to be a fascinating insight into lives and work of two men who could only be described as the true masters of their craft.

About the Author
Christopher P. Banks is a professor at Kent State University where he has served as the department's graduate coordinator for its M.A. and Ph.D. program, and as an affiliate for the Center for Public Administration and Public Policy. Presently, he is the department's prelaw advisor. He regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the judicial process, constitutional law, civil rights and liberties, law and society, terrorism, and American politics. He holds a J.D. from the University of Dayton and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Before becoming a faculty member at Kent State, Professor Banks practiced law in civil and criminal litigation and was active in local and state politics; in the late 1980's he was appointed by Connecticut Governor William O'Neill to serve as an administrative hearing officer for the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. Professor Banks is the author of the Judicial Politics in the D.C. Circuit Court (John Hopkins University Press, 1999); the co-author of The U.S. Supreme Court and New Federalism: From the Rehnquist to Roberts Court (Lanham: Roman & Littlefield, 2012) and Courts and Judicial Policymaking (Prentice Hall, 2008); and co-editor of the Final Arbiter: The Consequences of Bush v. Gore for Law and Politics (State University of New York Press, 2006) along with Superintending Democracy: The Courts and the Political Process (University of Akron Press, 2001). He has published numerous book chapters, book reviews, and journal articles on judicial behavior, law and politics, federalism, terrorism, and human rights in Justice System Journal, Publius: The Journal of Federalism, Judicature, International Journal of Human Rights, Public Integrity: The Journal for the American Society of Public Administration, Social Science Quarterly, Southeastern Political Review, and The Journal of Law & Politics, among others. David M. O'Brien is the Leone Reaves and George W. Spicer Professor at the University of Virginia. Prior to teaching at the University of Virginia, he taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Puget Sound, where he was chairman of the Department of Politics. He served as a research associate in the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice and, in 1982-1983, as a judicial fellow at the Supreme Court. He also has been a visiting fellow at the Russell Sage Foundation in New York (1981-1982); has been a Fulbright lecturer in constitutional studies at Oxford University, England (1987-1988); has been a Fulbright researcher in Japan (1993-1994); has held the Fulbright Chair for Senior Scholars at the University of Bologna in Italy (1999); and was a visiting professor at Florida International University (2002) and at the Institut d'Etudes Politique, Universite Lumiere-Lyon II in Lyon, France (2006). Among his many books are Storm Center: The Supreme Court in American Politics, eleventh edition (2017), which won the American Bar Association's Silver Gavel Award; Constitutional Law and Politics: Struggles for Power and Governmental Accountability and Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, tenth edition, two volumes (2017); Animal Sacrifice and Religious Freedom: Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye v. Courts and Science Policy Disputes (1987); The Public's Right to Know: The First Amendment and the Supreme Court (1981); and Privacy, Law, and Public Policy (1979). Dr. Stevenson is an associate professor of Decision Sciences in the College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in production/operations management, management science, quality concepts, and quality applications. The only reason that I'm not giving 5-stars is that the book is in pretty rough shape. I was under the impression that I'd get one in better shape, but it's fully functional so no worries there; I just could've saved a bit of money. But I'm happy with it overall. I still saved a ton of money anyway. In fact, after thinking about it some more, you now get 5-stars. Good job, and thank you.

From previous readings of James Michener's novel I was familiar with fervent admiration for Norton's Star Atlas in it, but only last night did I realize later mentioned is Allen's Astrophysical Quantities, known as A.Q., the Green Book, the astronomer's bible. The author, C.W. Allen merited an extraordinary 8-page obituary in 1987 in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society. His last, 3rd edition 1973 revision, in contrast to the 2001 4th edition by 90 contributers, is a marvel of physical insight and interconnections requiring at most only high-school-level math or its terminology, whereas the 4/e has much calculus and advanced math, though this latter is a good successor once you are thoroughly familiar with the 3/e. Both editions are now dated to some extent, though the 1973 version well retains some of the flair and mystique of the nights when optical astronomy from Earth's surface held undisputed sway.

Allen's third edition was one of those reference books that you develop a personal relationship with. It was small enough to get to know, and quirky enough to require getting to know. This fourth is a committee effort, bigger, more authoritative, more up to date. I doubt that I will develop a warm affection for it, as I did it's predecessor, but I will use it just the same.

Professor D. Larry Crumbley, PhD, CPA, CFF, CrFA is the KPMG Endowed Professor in the Department of Accounting, Louisiana State University. He has published more than 300 articles and authored more than 50 books. He is founding editor of the Journal of Forensic and Investigative Accounting. Professor Crumbley is the organizer and first President of the AAAÆs Forensic and Investigative Accounting Section. Lester E. Heitger, PhD teaches in the School of Accountancy, Missouri State University. Professor Heitger has served as a forensic accountant and/or testified as an expert witness in more than 50 cases over a 25 year period. G. Stevenson Smith, PhD is a Professor of Accounting at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He is a CMA and a CPA, as well as a Certified Cost Analyst. His professional experience includes working for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC, as a financial analyst.

Some very good and interesting information, but this is a rather undistinguished textbook with many grammatical errors and typos. Written in a very casual manner, it is also very incomplete and occasionally sexist. Chapters are often unnecessarily very long. No boldface terminology and the table of contents is quite bad. Pages are numbered by paragraph (example: Chapter 10, page 28 has '10-28' at the top corner of the page, and on the bottom it has "P10,211" where P is the 'paragraph' symbol). Basically, it's a lot of information taken from other sources and kind of loosely pieced together.

There are not many textbooks out there about forensic accounting, so I can't compare this one to any others. I'll have to look into that. But I am not enthusiastic about this textbook. Having studied a lot of 'pure accounting' courses, I was expecting this book to be a bit more computational. Instead, it's like a thicker version of the text used for my Accounting Ethics course, and the material covered is broader.

If you want to learn about forensic accounting, go somewhere else.

I bought this textbook for a graduate school course and I am far from impressed. The book regularly makes claims and then does not talk about these claims at all. The exercises at the end of the chapter will then ask you to substantiate these claims. My favorite example so far is that being a hard worker is an indicator of fraud. There is absolutely no explanation given as to what this is supposed to mean, nor is there any substantiation as to why being a hard worker would be a fraud indicator. In fact, I would think that most employees who commit fraud would probably not be described as the best employees; there are obviously exceptions to this, but generally, being a hard worker is not an indication that this person is committing fraud. This is not the only example as there is typically at least one claim per chapter which is important enough to warrant multiple exercise questions which has absolutely no information given, meaning that a term is introduced but never defined or explained, or an outlandish claim is made but not substantiated, etc.

If you need this book for a class, this is the appropriate book to get if the ISBN matches. My copy was in great condition as far as printing goes, its what was written on those pages that was the big problem.

the book was good with no markings at all, received in excellent condition. reliable renter. the content of the good was good and understandable but our professor uses practicals to teach the class so we didnt really use it except for chapter 17. Font is big and readable.

About the Author
As a professor, Diane E. Papalia has taught thousands of undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her bachelor’s degree, majoring in psychology, from Vassar College and both her master’s degree in child development and family relations and her Ph.D. in life-span developmental psychology from West Virginia University. She has published numerous articles in such professional journals as Human Development, International Journal of Aging and Human Development, Sex Roles, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology and Journal of Gerontology. Most of these papers have dealt with her major research focus, cognitive development from childhood through old age.

Sally Wendkos Olds is an award-winning professional writer who has written more than 200 articles in leading magazines and is the author or coauthor of six books addressed to general readers in addition to the three textbooks she has coauthored with Dr. Papalia. Her book The Complete Book of Breastfeeding, a classic since its publication in 1972, was reissued in 1999 in a completely updated and expanded edition; more than 2 million copies are in print. She has spoken widely on the topics of her books and articles to both professional and lay audiences, in person and on television and radio. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in English literature and minored in psychology. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was graduated summa cum laude.

Ruth Duskin Feldman is an award-winning writer and educator. With Diane E. Papalia and Sally Wendkos Olds, she coauthored the fourth and the seventh through the twelfth editions of Human Development and the eighth through the twelfth editions of A Child's World. She also is coauthor, with Dr. Papalia, Harvey Sterns and Cameron J. Camp, of Adult Development and Aging. This is the second psychology book I have purchased from amazon, and I am glad it was a new updated version, it is very user friendly for my online class and has outlines of everything in the chapter condensed at the end.

The book is a thoroughly informative overview of the human lifespan from conception to late life. It covers three developmental domains for each age group, Physical, Psychosocial, and Cognitive. It is a book that does a pretty good job of holding my attention, which I appreciate.

The book is very easy to read, very broad, and goes into enough detail to help you understand the material you're reading. It's extremely easy finding specific information whether skimming through the chapters or index. I ordered a manual and found that I didn't have to open it a single time.
