Wondeful author. You don't get this quality of pastoral teaching in most books nowadays. It takes a bit of getting used to his style. Once comfortable reading him, the depth is amazing. This is not an exhaustive commentary. It is a "stroll" through Genesis. These are his "notes". Don't read it for other than this.

Best Book for Pinup Photography IMHO

I just received this book and am delighted with it on all accounts!
Paper-back yes, but very high end paperback.

I've looked at and own a variety of books on Glamor & Pinup Photography.
most of them I look at 2-3 times and set them down or up in the bookcase.
I've gone through this 3-4 times just in the last 2 days and it is now my favorite
one in my collection.

Ryan starts off with a wonderful first person introduction about how he got into
Pinup Photography, and how in such a short time, he left his 600 sq ft studio,
to a now 4,500. He is a has a fun demeanor and is very enjoyable to read,
and of course looking at the many lovely ladies throughout the book is close to heaven.

He starts out as if this will be your first shoot, discussing his relatively simple
lighting studio. Showing that it is not too out of reach for most pinup photographer
wannabes.

He goes into a very nice discussion about props and how in the olden days, the
models always seemed to be doing something, as opposed to today's model shoots
where they primarily just stand there dazzling us with their beauty! It makes it a
lot more fun. Props often obtained simply at garage sales, flea markets and the like.

After Props comes wardrobe. He shows and discusses simple wardrobe outfits,
and instructing of his clients on what to bring of their own. Hair and Makeup are
a hard challenge for most photographers. He advises having a special Hair and Makeup
person for this. (If your just starting out this might not be as easy as stated.)

Posing basics is where it really begins to become fun! He talks about today's shoots
with such an emphasis on long and lean, to the pinup era where it was all about showing
the beautiful curves of lovely women. (I think a lot is lost in today's images by comparison!)
Posing is covered in good detain with many helpful fun hints and pictures. (This would be
a great book to show your model what you are working towads.) He shows and discusses
posing with props, multiple models ,and groups. Boudoir, Burlesque, Fans, Feathers, colors and
Accessories. FUN FUN FUN!!!

Camera settings lighting are shown. He shows an images, the set, and how he lit the lovely
ladies. He does a fun group of interesting location shoots. Very Nice Camera and lighting
placement overhead diagrams are shown for many of his shots.

There is even a section on processing and retouching images with Photoshop & Lightroom.

There is so much in this book, I can't imagine anyone ever being disappointed with this book!
5 stars all the way for me!

Every page is a treat to look at! Very easy on the eyes and leaves you wanting to return to
simpler times!

Bought on a lark... GREAT choice!

I was at the bookstore looking for a good guide for my new camera and saw this in passing. Looked like fun and it was under $30, so I thought I'd try it.

I was honestly shocked at how good it is. It covers everything. Seriously. Including:
- how to make the models comfortable
- a guide to the standard poses
- props
- location and studio shots
- tips for using Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom
- general knowledge acquired by experience.

If you have any interest at all in pin-up photography, this is well worth the money.

BEST BOOK ON PINUP/BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY BY FAR!!!

Just finished reading this book. Amazing. It has EVERYTHING anyone could ever want to know about Pinup/Boudoir photography. From props, lighting, poses, studio, location, I mean everything is covered in a clear and reader friendly manner. My favorite part is shooting the models with hot rods. The book is intelligently illustrated and the focus on some pinup photographers in the back of the book captures the individual styles of each studio. I could not be more happy with this book. My only complaint is that I have finished reading it and have nothing to look forward to. Do I hear "sequel"?
By the way. I never review books, but I am leaving this review on Amazon.
